Every few months, OFYC members help to train new caseworkers and trainers who work in local DHS branches across the state. All new DHS caseworkers are required to attend this training and OFYC youth participate in panel discussions based on their experiences in foster care and help new caseworkers work through various scenarios in break-out sessions. DHS staff also receive training on how to facilitate trainings for foster parents at their local branches and OFYC members participate on a youth panel in order to “train the trainer” on how to organize youth panels locally. Both of these trainings are ongoing through Portland State University’s Child Welfare Partnership Training Unit.
